3 government officials were caught taking bribe of 50 lakh rupees from contractor in Chandrapur

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team has apprehended three senior officials of the Soil and Water Conservation Department.

Nagpur: The ACB has arrested a contractor in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district for demanding a bribe of around Rs 50 lakh, an official said on Wednesday. And now three government officials have been arrested for clearing his pending bills.

He has said that an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team has apprehended three senior officials of the Soil and Water Conservation Department – Sub-divisional water conservation officer and Rohit Gautam, Kavijeet Patil, executive engineer, Nagpur, Shravan Shende, and divisional accounts officer, Chandrapur.

The official also said that Shende was apprehended by the Anti-Corruption Bureau after he allegedly accepted around Rs 50 lakh in cash on behalf of Gautam and Patil at the department’s office in Brahmapuri.

He said that the complainant, who is also a contractor-cum-engineer, In districts Wardha, Chandrapur, Nagpur, and Gadchiroli the contract had also been awarded to survey the dams. And they had also completed the work on the date of 18th April and for the works done in Nagpur and Wardha districts also had to get more than Rs.66.8 lakhs.

Accused officers had demanded more than 80 lakh rupees

Similarly, the complainant was to get Rs 1.26 crore for the work done by his firm in Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts. Along with this, the department had sanctioned and released 40 percent amount for the works done by him in Gadchiroli and Chandrapur and about 40 percent for the work in Nagpur and Wardha districts, the official said.

He has also said that these three accused officers had also demanded more than 80 lakh rupees to settle the pending bills.

The officer has also said that a case has been registered against these three at the Brahmapuri police station under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. And their own houses in Nagpur and Chandrapur are now being searched.
