Action of NMC Challenged in High Court
The Bombay High Court Nagpur Bench judge, Justice Anil Killor, while hearing the case on Sunday afternoon has issued a notice to various bodies working in the time of pandemic. These include the Union and the State Government Health and family welfare departments along with the ICMR and National Centre for Disease Control along with the Municipal Commissioner, Nagpur against the groups which the PIL was filed by a Chhaoni based resident in Nagpur called Mohammad Nishat S/o Mohammad Salim for detaining 1408 persons from Satranjipura is challenged.
As per the petitioner, the authorities have illegally detained around 1408 residents of Satranjipura Area by violating the prescribed protocols and guidelines as given by the bodies like ICMR and Ministry of Health New Delhi. However, reacting to the notice Dr. Tushar Madlekar claimed that the said residents were kept inside the isolation center for two weeks as they were considered to be high risk people and also had positive cases for the virus.
The petitioner further claimed that people from the particular community were randomly detailed without classifying as high risk or positive people. The PIL further said that the people who were kept at the detention center failed to follow the norms as given by the health bodies like WHO and thus have been involved in the violation of protocols issued by the central government. Ever since the case of death was reported from the said area, it was declared as the hotspot for the virus. It has been making news for all good and bad reasons.
