Nagpur BSNL employee unions to join nationwide hunger strike today
We have been hearing about the sinking story of BSNL or the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd story for the past few months. Now, as we see the country’s largest organization on the brink of collapse the employees have called upon for a nationwide hunger strike starting from today. The employees from Nagpur have also joined the strike to protest the delay in implementing the INR 69K crore revival package, which is announced by the government last year.
As per reports, the Union of the employees called the All Unions and Associations of BSNL (AUAB) is observing the nationwide hunger strike on February 24, 2020. This hunger strike is called to raise the demand for the expeditious implementation of the Union Cabinet’s revival package for the company for settling down the grievances of the employees. The Union Government has decided last year in October with the INR 68,751-crore revival package to make the company free from losses.
They have devised the voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) as well for the employees for loss-making BSNL and MTNL. The package carried out the allotment of 4G spectrum, along with the issuing of sovereign guarantee meant for raising funds up to INR 15,000 crore with the share of BSNL at Rs 8,500 crore and Rs 6,500 crore for MTNL along with settling down the long-term bonds, and monetization of assets for the dejected BSNL employees along with the implementation of a VRS. With the said strike, the employee unions of the BSNL is expecting the ongoing settlement in the country.
