Nagpur Police finds increase in motorists driving without license

Last year, the traffic police registered a case against the drivers of around 15,000 motorists who completely failed to produce valid driving licenses by the end of the month of April.

Nagpur: The city police have seen a significant increase in the cases of drivers driving without a license in Nagpur this year itself.

Last year, the traffic police registered a case against the drivers of around 15,000 motorists who completely failed to produce valid driving licenses by the end of the month of April. However, in the same calendar year (January 1 to April 30) during the same period, the number of cases increased to 28,487.

The fine for driving without a license has been increased from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000. The Government of Maharashtra notified the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 on Thursday, Due to which the compounding fine for various traffic offenses had increased. The notification has come into effect from the date of December 1, 2021.

Traffic experts say that despite the huge increase in the number of fines, the increasing trend of people driving without a license is worrying.

Increase in the number of people driving without a license

Although no separate data has been compiled at all, the actions of the traffic police have shown that most of the criminals caught were youths. Senior traffic police have said that their campaign is most specifically against teenagers driving without a license. They want to strongly discourage this practice. Whenever they come across similar criminals, they register a case against them as well as the owner of the vehicle.

Activist Raju Wagh said an increase in the number of violators indicates that the fear of punitive action is easing.

In the zone of Cotton Market, which has many commercial and market areas like Cotton Market, Orange Market, Central Avenue, etc., He has also won the dubious distinction of large-scale violations of the Motor Vehicles Act. Here, the traffic police have booked 3,457 drivers after completely failing to show their driving licenses.

There has also been a huge increase in the number of people driving without a license in the Sadar traffic zone. In the year 2021 (from 1 January to 30 April), the zone had found zero violations, It has booked around 548 motorists during the same period this year.
