30-year-old died in accident, relatives donated organs

Swapnil Hatwar was returning home from duty in Western Coalfields Limited on Tuesday when he met with an accident near Vihirhaon of Road, Umred.

Nagpur: Elderly parents of 30-year-old Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) employee Swapnil Hatwar and his 23-year-old sister killed the youth in a road accident. He has decided to donate his organ. Now his decision has given a new lease of life to three patients, and eyesight to two others.

Swapnil Hatwar was returning home from duty in Western Coalfields Limited on Tuesday when he met with an accident near Vihirhaon of Road, Umred. Dr. Vibhavari Dani, President, Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) Nagpur has said that He had suffered a very serious head injury and had already been admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital. Then his family also shifted him to Neuron Hospital. Here, Dr. Chandrshekhar Pakhmode and his team had tried a lot but Swapnil Hatwar could not be saved.

Chandrshekhar declared Swapnil Hatwar brain dead and then his parents were advised to go for organ donation. Veena Vathor, the coordinator of Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre Nagpur, had told him about the importance of donating organs. Swapni’s father Anant, mother Sandhya and sister Akansha agreed to donate their organs.

89th Deceased organ donation

Then Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre transferred this patient to the nearest registered transplant center Alexis’s hospital, Where the organs of the deceased were harvested, allotted, and then transplanted to those needy patients.

The staff at Alexis Hospital also created an honor corridor and paid tribute to the donor. Along with this the hospital also provided free ambulance service.

This was the 89th deceased organ donation since the inception of Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre, and also the fourth deceased donor of 2022 this year. Dr. Sanjeev Kolte, Secretary, Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre has said that this was the 60th successful liver transplant and also the 153rd and 154th kidney transplants in Nagpur.
