Yavatmal Government Medical College student from Nagpur tries to end life

Student is a resident of Nagpur and used to live with her friend in the student girls' hostel.

Yavatmal: A 22-year-old MBBS second year student tried to commit suicide by hanging himself in the hostel of Shri Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College (GMC) in Yavatmal on Thursday evening. She was saved by his roommate who took him to the ICU. The condition of this student is said to be stable at present.

According to college sources, this student is a resident of Nagpur and used to live with her friend in the student girls’ hostel. The girl’s parents had come to Yavatmal only a few weeks back and were living in a rented house near the college.

Sources have also said that the student was alone in her room on Thursday when she tried to hang herself from the ceiling with a rope. When her friend returned to the room, she immediately cut the rope and then took the student down.

According to Additional SP Piyush Jagtap, on getting the information, City police station’s PSO Nandkumar Pant and his companions reached the college. After the panchnama is done, we will register an FIR against the girl under section 309 of the IPC. Jagtap said. At present, City police station’s PSO Nandkumar Pant is investigating further.

It is also being told that after failing in the examination, the student had attempted suicide in the same way earlier also. Still, she was under a lot of stress due to the exam, it is learned.

TOI has contacted Dean Dr Milind Fulpatil but he has refused to divulge any details. He said. “I am on leave,” he said.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Surendra Bhuyar has also not even answered the questions asked in this regard.
