Dirty Roads: 11 Show cause notice to SI

NMC has about 38 Sanitary Inspectors attached to about 10 areas and they are going to supervise the sanitation workers on duty who clean the roads.

Nagpur: The zone of Laxmi Nagar has dirty roads in the city. This has been revealed due to an inspection conducted by the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation. From this inspection, it has also come to the fore that the road dividers were also very dirty.

Nagpur Municipal Corporation has about 38 Sanitary Inspectors attached to about 10 areas and they are going to supervise the sanitation workers on duty who clean the roads.

After this revelation, Nodal officer of the solid waste management department named Dr. Gajendra Mahalle. He has directed all the zonal officers to issue show cause notices to the cleaning inspectors as to why some disciplinary action should not be initiated against them even for dirty roads and dividers.

So far the civil administration has issued show cause notices to around 11 Sanitary Inspectors (SI).

Along with this, the inspection team has also found stretches and dividers dirty in Hanuman Nagar and Mangalwari areas. The Gandhibagh and Dharampeth areas also have very dirty parts. Which has exposed the irregularities in cleaning the roads by the sanitation workers in many areas across the city.

It is the job of the Sanitation Inspectors to regularly monitor the cleanliness of the roads even by the sanitation workers.

The NMC has started inspecting the city’s footpaths, dividers, and roads only after the city’s poor performance in the recently announced Swachh Survekshan. The city has dropped from 18th place to 23rd place. NMC also scored zero in the Garbage Free Cities (GFC) rankings released earlier this year. Due to which the overall ranking has been affected. In the year 2020 also, this city had secured the same marks in the GFC category.

Very strict action will be taken by the Solid Waste Management department on the repeated careless attitude of Sanitary Inspectors. A senior official has said that first they have been warned and then if the situation does not improve at all. Then the civil administration will not only impose fines but can also deduct their salary.

Due to the lax attitude of the sanitation inspectors, there has also been a significant increase in the garbage sensitive places in the city. According to the department, there are about 171 black spots in this city where irresponsible citizens throw garbage.
