Medical teachers withdraw strike ‘for a month’

These teachers had completely stopped conducting academic lectures for postgraduate (MD/MS) and undergraduate (MBBS) students in their colleges more than a month ago.

Nagpur: Nagpur: Teachers of GMC across the state withdrew their agitation on Friday. Amit Deshmukh, Medical Education Minister,  has assured to solve all their problems within a month and doctors have decided to wait and see until then.

These teachers had completely stopped conducting academic lectures for undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD/MS) students in their colleges more than a month ago. And recently he also withdrew his name from clinical work (patient services), Then after which the care of patients in most of the government hospitals of the state was also greatly affected. A few rounds of discussions have also taken place with the Medical Education Minister. Finally, doctors have also got assurance in writing that in a month these problems will be solved.

Dr Samir Golawar, General Secretary, Maharashtra State Medical Teachers Association (MSMTA), Those who have attended the meeting along with Minister Amit, He has said that most of the important demands have been accepted. Dr. Golavar has said that he has decided to get involved in patient care along with conducting academic classes for PG and UG students from the date of March 18.

How to make temporary teachers permanent in a time-bound manner? A special meeting will be held with the Chief Minister to take a decision on this also. The proposal to implement the CAS for medical teachers will be tabled for cabinet approval very soon. After getting the approval of the cabinet, these teachers will get a lot of benefits of the Career Advancement Scheme.

Doctors holding PG in the Department of Health are getting a lot of benefits of non-compounding increments at present. Doctors working in medical colleges under the DMER were also demanding the same. And for this demand, a study group will also be formed by the Department of Medical Education and Research. This study team will submit its report to the government itself.

Most of the central demands of the doctors have already been considered and they have also been given a very strong assurance. Maharashtra State Medical Teachers Association has also mentioned in its statement that they are stopping the strike for about a month. As assured by the Minister, after seeing the progress will decide the further course of action. The Director of Education, Medical has also agreed to meet the Maharashtra State Medical Teachers Association delegation about once every three months to discuss their issues.
