Health minister keeps tainted Wadi hospital closed a day before sealing

In the order passed on Monday, Sawant also said that the District Civil Surgeon had passed an order to cancel the registration certificate on the date of November 9.

Nagpur: Public health and family welfare minister Tanaji Sawant has put an interim stay on the District Civil Surgeon’s decision to completely cancel the registration certificate of Well Treat Multispeciality Hospital and Critical Care Center, Wadi. The ban had already been imposed almost a day before the Wadi Municipal Council sealed the hospital.

In the order passed on Monday, Sawant also said that the District Civil Surgeon had passed an order to cancel the registration certificate on the date of November 9. Dr. Rahul Thawre and Pravin Giripunje, Partners of M/s Sanidhya Health Care ‘Well Treat Multispeciality Hospital’ have also filed an appeal before me. I have also heard representations orally against the order of the District Civil Surgeon and the injustice done to him. Therefore, I am giving interim adjournment till the hearing in the capacity of the Head of the Department.

The District Civil Surgeon has not submitted the documents required for renewal, and the lack of fire systems expiry of validity on the date of March 31, 2021. And had completely canceled the registration certificate citing the electricity audit certificate. CS took the decision after taking legal opinion the Wadi Municipal Council had also sent a letter to the District Civil Surgeon asking him to close the hospital.

Wadi Municipal Council had planned to seal the hospital

The hospital operates from a commercial complex – Pooja Chambers on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors since 2015. The complex also lacks building plan approval, NOC from the fire department, and other mandatory permissions and systems, as per notices already served by the Wadi Municipal Council.

The hospital caught fire on April 12 last year, in which four patients lost their lives.

The Wadi Municipal Council had planned to seal the hospital at 3 pm on Tuesday, considering the district civil surgeon’s orders to cancel the registration license and shut it down on its own. Along with this, the council had also sought police protection and had also engaged an ambulance to shift the patients. Now the Wadi Municipal Council will have to postpone the action till further orders from the minister.
